Robert E. Schween, P.C.

 

Mr. Schween’s practice emphasizes all aspects of water law.  He has extensive experience with water rights matters in Colorado, particularly in Water Divisions 1 (South Platte River), 2 (Arkansas River), and 6 (North Platte River drainage).  He has practiced law in Colorado since 1983, and has further experience in private land development, land planning, municipal and special district issues, water title, and administrative law.  Mr. Schween has also practiced before the Colorado Ground Water Commission and the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission.

 

In the last several years, Mr. Schween has focused primarily on adjudications of water rights and augmentation plans, and water rights purchases and sales.  Some of the clients and entities he represents or has represented in these matters are the Alpert Companies; Anthony Homes; Bell Mountain Ranch Associates, L.P.; Castle Pines Golf Club, Inc.; Castle Pines Land Company; Cherry Creek Estates, LLC; Cody Energy; Cyprus Minerals Company; Dawson Butte Land Company; Forest View Company; The Gates Corporation; Gateway American Properties; the Gifted Academy at Castle Pines Village; Magness Land and Cattle Company; the Meadow Island Ditch No. 2 Company, Pendleton Land & Exploration; Shamrock Investments, LLC; SunBlest Farms, and Valley Development Group, LLC.

 

Mr. Schween has his own professional corporation and has been a shareholder in the Denver laws firms of Saunders, Snyder, Ross & Dickson, P.C., and Duncan, Ostrander & Dingess, P.C.  Prior to obtaining his JD from Denver University, Mr. Schween worked for the federal government, primarily in health care investigations, and also holds a masters decree in Public Administration.

 

Mr. Schween is a member of the Colorado Bar Association and the Douglas-Elbert Bar Association, and the Water and Real Estate Sections.  He continues to be active in local US Tennis Association matters, and is an active member of Greenwood Athletic Club.

 

Mr. Schween has authored an article for the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Institute entitled “Ground Water Modeling: Capabilities and Limitations, Use and Abuse” (1986), and a chapter on "Ground Water" for the Colorado Bar Association's Water Law Benchbook (2006).
